New Study Says Increased Access to Parks and Recreational Space Needed to Combat California’s Growing Obesity Epidemic
(9/1/10) SACRAMENTO, CA – A new study out today calls for increasing access to parks and recreational space to help combat the rapidly growing rate of obesity and diabetes in the state. The study by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research found that the majority of California adults are obese or overweight and more than 2 million Californians have been diagnosed with diabetes.

8/20/10: STOCKTON, CA – The Central Valley Tourism Association (CVTA) – comprised of chambers of commerce, convention and visitors bureaus, hospitality professionals, destination marketing organizations and travel and tourism related businesses throughout the 16 counties of California’s Central Valley – has announced its endorsement of Prop. 21, citing the importance of state parks to business in the region. 8/17/10: OAKLAND, CA -- Passage of Proposition 21 – a statewide initiative on the Nov. 2 ballot – would assure that California’s 278 state parks and beaches remain open, well maintained and a diverse resource for all Californians to be physically active, the Public Health Institute (PHI) said today in announcing its endorsement of the measure.
